Most believers are glad to be forgiven and stop there, but Scripture says that having been set free from sin, we became slaves to righteousness. The part of you that was a sinner was buried with Christ, and what the old law could never do was purge your conscience of the memory of that sin. So the reason you keep struggling is not that you are “only human”; it is that you have not yet made up your mind to want His mind. It is no longer you who lives, but Christ who lives in you.
