You can seek God for a thousand things you need, and many of them matter, but the power of God comes only when you seek Him. Jesus said it was better that He go, because then His Spirit could dwell in you and you would receive power to bear witness of Him. You cannot really define God; the closest words are holy and love, because He is so far beyond description. His will unfolds in your life not because you needed something, but because you sought Him first, and those who seek Him will find Him.
